Uses:DXSORB 1577 is used as a light stabilizer/UV absorber for polyethylene phthalate polymers intended for use in contact with food. Very low volatile UV light absorber and stabilizer.Allows polycarbonates and polyesters to achieve a higher resistance to weathering than conventional benzotriazole UV absorbers. Low tendency to chelate allows its use in polymer formulations containing catalyst residues. DXSORB 1577(UV-1577) is used as a light stabilizer/UV absorber for polyethylene phthalate polymers intended for use in contact with food.UV-1577 is a high performance ultraviolet light absorber containing hydroxyphenyl triazine group. The performance of UV-1577 can be optimized when combined with HALS.Polyalkene terephthaletes and naphthalates, linear and branched polycarbonates, modified polyphenylene ether compounds, and various high performance plastics. Relevant applica- tions also include the use of homo-, co-, or terpolymer structural compositons in thermo- plastic materials. Polymer blends&alloys, such as PC/ABS, PC/PBT, PPE/IPS, PPE/PA and copolymers as well as in reinforced, filled and/or flame retarded compounds, which can be transparent, translucent and/or pigmented.

Detailed Introduction

UV-1577 is a widely used hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) that provides effective protection against the damaging effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation and oxidative degradation. It is commonly utilized as an additive in various industries, including plastics, coatings, adhesives, and textiles, to enhance the durability and lifespan of materials exposed to outdoor environments.
UV-1577, also known by its chemical name bis(1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidinyl) sebacate, belongs to the hindered amine family of light stabilizers. It works through a unique mechanism of action to prevent UV-induced degradation in polymers. When exposed to UV radiation, UV-1577 undergoes a reversible phototransformation, capturing free radicals and neutralizing them. This prevents the degradation of the polymer and the subsequent loss of physical properties, such as color fading, embrittlement, and surface cracks.
One of the key advantages of UV-1577 is its versatility and compatibility with a wide range of polymers and materials. It can be used in thermoplastics, such as polyolefins (e.g., polyethylene and polypropylene), polyesters, polycarbonates, and PVC (polyvinyl chloride). It is also effective in thermosetting resins, such as polyurethanes, epoxy resins, and unsaturated polyester resins. This versatility makes UV-1577 suitable for various applications, including films, fibers, molded parts, coatings, adhesives, and sealants.
UV-1577 offers excellent thermal and oxidative stability, ensuring its longevity and effectiveness even under harsh conditions and prolonged exposure to UV radiation. It can withstand elevated processing temperatures during polymer production or article preparation without significant degradation.
To achieve optimal performance, UV-1577 is often used in combination with other light stabilizers, such as UV absorbers or antioxidants, to provide a synergistic effect. This combination helps to maximize UV protection and overall durability of materials.
It is important to consider the specific dosage and formulation guidelines for incorporating UV-1577 into different applications. Manufacturers and users should refer to technical literature, product guidelines, and industry best practices for recommended usage levels.
UV-1577 is generally considered safe when handled, stored, and used according to applicable regulations and guidelines. However, it is always advisable to consult the safety data sheet (SDS) and comply with local regulations to ensure proper handling and disposal procedures.

Application

UV-1577 is a chemical compound that is commonly known as tinuvin 1577 or bis(1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidyl) sebacate. It is a hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) that is used in various industries and applications. Here are some of its main uses:
Polymer Stabilization: UV-1577 is widely used as a light stabilizer in polymer products. It protects polymers, such as plastics and coatings, from the harmful effects of UV radiation, including degradation, discoloration, and loss of mechanical properties. It helps to extend the lifespan and maintain the appearance of polymer-based materials.
Coatings and Paints: UV-1577 is added to coatings and paints to improve their resistance to UV degradation. It helps in preventing color fading, gloss reduction, and surface chalking caused by exposure to sunlight.
Plastics: It is used in various plastic applications, including polyolefins (such as polyethylene and polypropylene), polyurethanes, and PVC (polyvinyl chloride) products. UV-1577 enhances the weather and light stability of these plastics, allowing them to maintain their physical properties over extended periods of outdoor exposure.
Adhesives and Sealants: UV-1577 is incorporated into adhesives and sealants to protect them from UV-induced degradation. This helps to maintain the adhesive strength and extend the service life of these products, especially in outdoor applications.
Fibers and Textiles: UV-1577 is also used in the textile industry to protect fabrics and fibers from UV radiation damage. It prevents discoloration, fiber degradation, and loss of mechanical strength caused by UV exposure.
It is important to note that the specific amounts and application methods of UV-1577 may vary depending on the specific product and industry. Manufacturers and users of UV-1577 should always follow recommended guidelines and regulations for its proper handling and usage.
